A section of the iconic Great Ocean Road is at risk of washing away, with a car park at Apollo Bay sustaining extensive damage over the weekend.

The Rumour File was told this morning a section of the coastal road, including the Tuxion Road car park, could be washed out to sea.

Mark Koliba, VicRoads South Western Regional Director, told Ross and John this was the first he’d heard about this particular trouble spot.

“Yesterday we were patrolling the roads, we had a bit of material, maybe wheelbarrow sized loads come down in a few spots,” Mark said.

“But this car park situation is news to me this morning.

“Erosion and wave impact is certainly a concern, of which we monitor the whole road, every year we lose a bit of sand.”
