RUMOUR FILE: 3AW Breakfast is told a broken down cruise ship had mechanical issues before it departed Melbourne.

The Norwegian Star broke down outside Port Phillip Bay on a multi-stop cruise to New Zealand.

‘Aye Aye Cap’ told 3AW Breakfast about an issue with the Norwegian Star’s propeller last week.

The ship was left stranded off Wilsons Promontory after the propulsion system stopped functioning on Friday.

The ship was pulled by tug boats back to Station Pier on Sunday.
