Update: Truckies union fears unhappy Christmas for hundreds of drivers
UPDATE
The Transport Workers Union fears hundreds of drivers will head into Christmas uncertain about their job amid reports of a company going to administration.
As first reported on 3AW Drive and expanded upon on the Rumour File, truckies for Redstar Transport say they’ve been told to return their loads.
The TWU has also been told other transport operators were instructed to cease contracting work to Redstar.
“If our suspicions ring true, yesterday’s pay day could not only be the last one of the year, but the last one Redstar workers ever receive from the company,” TWU National Assistant Secretary Nick McIntosh said in a statement this morning.
“It’s outrageous that the workers are being left in the dark, especially this close to the holidays.”
The TWU has received a commitment from Toll to provide job opportunities for Redstar Transport workers.
Linfox and ACFS have also agreed to take on a number of workers.
Redstar Transport workers are encouraged to contact their TWU branch for further information.
