RUMOUR FILE: US vice president Joe Biden to visit Melbourne this weekend

RUMOUR CONFIRMED: One of the world’s most powerful people is on his way to Melbourne.

3AW Breakfast revealed early this week American vice-president Joe Biden would be in town this weekend to visit the new Peter MacCallum cancer centre.

He has a long-standing commitment to cancer research.

The White House officially confirmed the news Wednesday morning (Australian time).

Mr Biden will travel to Australia on Friday to visit the cancer centre, as well as the Boeing factory.

It’s also understood Barack Obama’s deputy could swing by the MCG on Sunday to watch the clash between Carlton and West Coast.

3AW understands secret service representatives have already scoped out the home of football.

He’ll then head to Sydney on July 18 to meet with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and other senior government officials, as well as business leaders and Australian troops.
