Australian musician Russell Morris says it was a “beautiful surprise” when his albums started topping the charts.

Speaking to Denis Walter on 3AW Afternoons, the ARIA Hall of Fame inductee is performing at MEMO Music Hall on Friday and spoke about moving to Queensland.

Although as a die-hard Tigers fan, he’ll be keeping a close eye on the score on Friday night.

But he’s particularly chuffed to performing.

“It’s very satisfying after 30 years of no success on the charts to all of a sudden have albums that are platinum selling,” he said.

“It’s almost like you’ve won Tattslotto.

“I’d almost given up on the fact I might sell a lot of records – when it did happen it was a beautiful surprise.”

The Lost Ragas and JR Reyne are also playing at the show on Friday.
