Safe hurled from vehicle during police chase across Melbourne

Three men are in custody after throwing a safe from a vehicle during a dramatic police chase which spanned more than 50 kilometres.
Police were investigating reports of a robbery at a Hoppers Crossing telecommunications store just before 1am.
They spotted a red SUV which was monitored by the airwing as it travelled to Springvale,
As officers attempted to intercept the car, the offenders threw a safe from the boot and crossed onto the wrong side of the road.
The trio then dumped that car and stole another.
Police says they were about to steal a third vehicle when they were arrested on Branton Drive in Hampton Park.
Three men — aged 28, 32 and 33 — are in police custody.
