Lord mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp believes more high-rise apartments in the CBD is a “very sensible proposition”.

Infrastructure Victoria released a report today calling for more high-rise apartments in the city to deal with the growing population.

Ms Capp believes it’s a good idea as she claims 100,000 more people are expected to live in the CBD by 2031.

Infrastructure Victoria CEO, Dr Jonathan Spear, told Neil Mitchell a more compact CBD is not so much just about more high-rise apartments, but rather “more housing choices”.

Dr Spear also spoke on the need for more high-rises in middle suburbs for middle income earners in particular.

“At the moment, really the only choice we’ve got is on the edges of our cities, and we think that needs to change,” he told Neil Mitchell.
