Same-sex marriage postal survey results to be announced today
The result of the same-sex marriage postal survey will be declared later this morning.
After a two-month campaign, Australians will soon learn if gay marriage will be legalised.
The result of the survey will be announced by the Bureau of Statistics at 10am.
Almost 13 million ballot papers were returned.
If the majority of people have voted “Yes”, the debate will then turn to what new marriage laws could look like.
Legislation is expected to be introduced to the Senate as early as tomorrow, but could be subject to significant changes.
