#SayItNow: Wayne Schwass
From the outside, former North Melbourne premiership player Wayne Schwass appeared to be living out every boy’s dream.
Few knew, but Schwass battled clinical depression in secret for much of his AFL career.
“People thought everything was ok,” he told Denis Walter.
“I couldn’t understand why but I was crying a lot, on my way home from training, at night, trying to get to sleep.
“Ignorantly I thought depression was for weak people.”
For Tobin Brothers’ #SayItNow week, Schwass took the time to thank former North Melbourne club doctor Dr Harry Unglik, who diagnosed him with depression.
“That man helped saved my life, a great human being,” Schwass said.
