Video stores are still surviving in Melbourne but one store owner admits it’ll be a ‘struggle’ to remain sustainable long-term.

Online downloads and rise of streaming services like Netflix have put a major dent in the industry, with several stores closing down due to poor business.

Derek De Vreugt owns Picture Search Video in Richmond and told Tom Elliott business was tough.

‘I’ve actually signed on to be here for another four years, but that’s going to be a struggle,’ he conceded on 3AW Drive.

And while viewers are increasingly turning to other avenues for their film fix, Mr De Vreugt said new release movies were still the most popular.

On a lighter note, Mr De Vreugt also revealed Scarface was the most commonly stolen film from his store.
