School camp dispute heats up with teachers union

A dispute has erupted over whether teachers should be given time off in lieu for every hour they spend on school camps.

At the moment, schools can agree to give teachers time off for every hour they spend “on duty” at camp.

But the Australian Education Union says that doesn’t stack up.

“The idea you can be ‘off duty’ (on camp) doesn’t make sense,” Justin Mullaly, deputy president at the AEU, said.
