Scott Morrison hints at tax and levy cuts as government considers GST increase

Australians could be in for relief when it comes to income tax and insurance levies as the Federal Government considers increasing the GST.

Treasurer Scott Morrison said while a range of measures were being discussed, nothing was yet to be formally tabled.

He did, however, say income – not consumption – taxes were his focus.

State insurance levies are also in the gun.

‘They cost Australians around $6 billion a year,’ Mr Morrison said.
