Scott Morrison moves to calm talk of a political crisis facing the government
Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison has hosed down talk of a political crisis facing the government after Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce lashed out in an explosive press conference.
The Nationals leader says he’s not going anywhere, and described Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s comments related to his relationship with a former staffer as “inept” .
In an interview with Tom Elliott, Mr Morrison defended Mr Turnbull’s public dressing down and the changes to the ministerial code of conduct.
But he also said some of the more inflammatory comments during Mr Joyce’s explosive press conference should “go through to the keeper”.
Tom Elliott: Barnaby has publicly referred to the Prime Minister as inept.
Mr Morrison: You let that go through to the keeper.
Tom Elliott: Do you?
Mr Morrison: You do, because in the heat of the moment he’s under a lot of pressure.
