Scott Morrison wants to change ‘crazy’ tax rate
Scott Morrison says the government needs to fix ‘perceptions’ about the tax system if it wants to implement change.
Speaking with Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive, the new federal treasurer said the current system was ‘penalising’ Australians.
‘I think they’re perceptions we have to challenge,’ Mr Morrison said.
‘If we’re going to change the tax system, the only reason we’re going to do it is so people will be in a better off position.
‘Our tax system is currently penalising Australians.
‘If you’re on an average wage in this country, you’re going to be on the second highest tax rate next year.
‘That’s just crazy.’
The treasurer also cautiously welcomed a proposal from Labor to set-up a $10 billion infrastructure bank.
Labor is promising Infrastructure Australia more power and funds to help build road, rail and port projects – if it wins the next election.
Mr Morrison said it was an ‘interesting’ idea, but he’s not confident the opposition could implement them.
