Growing fears for 70-year-old missing in the High Country
The large-scale search for a 70-year-old man who vanished in Victoria’s High Country is stretching into its fourth day.
Greensborough man Christos was last seen on Big Muster Drive in Dinner Plain at about 2.45pm on Friday.
It’s understood he went for a walk to see emus in the area and has not been seen since.
Police believe he may have hit his head and become disorientated.
Victoria Police Inspector Paul Hargreaves says about 120 people — including police, SES, Parks Victoria, search and rescue and volunteers — are out looking for the missing man.
Investigators have combed a three kilometre radius from where Christos was last seen.
“We’ve nearly saturated that,” Inspector Hargreaves told Neil Mitchell.
“We’re doing everything we can.”
But fears for Christos’s wellbeing are mounting.
“We know that time is not on our side,” Inspector Hargreaves said.
“Without going into the specifics of it, we know each day makes it harder. If you’re out there in those conditions wearing the clothing that he had — and he only had light clothing on — and you get wet, and you get that wind chill factor, it’s going to be quite hard on your body.
Anyone with information on Christos’s whereabouts is urged to contact Wangaratta Police Station on 5723 0888.
