A leading Australian security and terror expert says schools may become a target in the wake of the Manchester attack.

Peter Jennings, Executive Director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, told Neil Mitchell Australia had to take the terror threat seriously.

He said the decision to bomb a concert, mainly attended by teenage girls, showed a new depth of “appalling human behaviour.”

“I hate to say it by I think it means we should be worrying about schools and other places like that,” he said.

Mr Jennings said he expected the latest attack to have “lasting consequences.”

“It’s just that more outrageous when it’s happening to children,” he said.

“I think the emotional reaction we’ll see in the UK and probably Australia, too, is such that there’ll be a demand put on governments to do more.”
