A house has erupted in flames overnight in Truganina with reports children were stuck inside the home.

The United Firefighter’s Union has told 3AW Drive, the first crew to arrive on scene was forced to carry out rescues without water due a water pump failure.

Secretary of the union, Peter Marshall, says the union’s worst fears came true last night, and took aim at Fire Rescue Victoria for “playing Russian Roulette” with lives.

Press PLAY to hear what happened

“The pump failed, not just once, on seven attempts,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Jacqui Felgate.

A FRV Spokesperson says no reports were made regarding equipment faults “impacting firefighter or community safety”.

“We are investigating a potential issue with Pumper 57, which was one of many appliances on scene.”

Mr Marshall has denied the claims made by FRV.

“That’s simply an untruth … more importantly, there will be a TV interview with one of the officers, which will show it’s not true tonight,” he said.

He’s also called for a parliamentary inquiry.
