Derryn Hinch admits he’s a weekly drinker but denies it’s an issue, even as a self-confessed former ‘piss pot.’

The Senator hit back on 3AW on Tuesday after his ex-partner took to social media to suggest he was back on the booze.

Hinch famously had a liver transplant in 2011 due to advanced cirrhosis caused by his drinking.

The Senator said he now had one glass of ‘watered down’ wine, once a week, after consulting his surgeon.

‘If I was back being a piss pot and drinking every day, that would be a disgrace,’ Hinch said on 3AW.

‘I’d end up being dead and I don’t want that.

‘I’m sure if my surgeon thought I was a risk, he wouldn’t have given me the green light.’

He said claims from his former partner he was drinking beer were wrong.

‘I drink think a thing called Coopers Ultra Light, which you buy in the supermarket and is non-alcoholic,’ Hinch explained.

‘It’s like a soft drink.’
