Sexism, hazing and porn: Leaked details of firefighting culture report
Allegations of sexism within the fire services, including rituals where female recruits were forced to strip naked for photos, have placed further pressure on the state government and its relationship with the firefighter’s union this morning.
Leaked details of an upcoming report into the culture within the CFA and MFB have emerged in the Herald Sun today.
In the article, there are also claims male firefighters have brought women back to the station for sex, and porn has been found hanging in kitchen cupboards.
Emergency Services Minister James Merlino, who is yet to see the report, says change is needed.
But speaking to 3AW News this morning, he stopped short of adhering to Opposition demands to criticise the union for refusing to take part in the inquiry.
‘Cultural change is required within the CFA, within the MFB,’ he said.
‘I’ve been on the record many times saying that needs to happen and the reports today are an example of this.’
