Neil Mitchell says the Labor Party has done a ‘total backflip’ on its commitment to dump the so-called ‘Tampon Tax’.

Speaking at a forum last night, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten was questioned about whether he would scrap the GST on sanitary products if elected.

But he said he couldn’t commit to it despite being critical of the tax previously.

Shadow Assistant Treasurer Andrew Leigh fielded questions on 3AW Mornings.

‘We’ve always argued that state and territory leaders should have removed the GST from tampons but as you know Neil, this is a change that requires agreement from the states and territories,’ he said.

He was also asked about the budget and Labor’s stance on penalty rates.
