‘Shame!’: Angry protesters derail Monash Council meeting

More than 100 angry protesters derailed a City of Monash council meeting chanting “shame” at councillors last night.

It comes after the council refused to give in to pressure to scrap a drag story time event at Oakleigh Library.

One of the protesters, Alexandra, says the books to be read at the event, which is aimed at one to six-year-olds, are “not appropriate”.

“We feel like we’re not being heard … we’ve inundated them with emails, phone calls, we all get the same cookie cutter responses,” she told Neil Mitchell.
