Shane Patton says vision of a police officer forcefully taking down a man at Flinders Street Station will be looked into.

Victoria Police’s Chief Commissioner said Professional Standards Command would likely handle the matter.

“We’ll investigate it with an open mind and look at it to determine whether they’ve acted appropriately,” Shane Patton said on 3AW.

But despite its confronting nature, he told 3AW he wouldn’t be “jumping to conclusions” about what had occurred.

“There is always a before and after with these matters, and context, and I think that’s important,” Shane Patton said.

He said, by and large, police had done an outstanding job dealing with protesters in what had been a “dynamic, scary and frightening” few days.

“They have been brilliant,” he said.

“I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
