A shearer is fighting for life in hospital following a bizarre series of events in the state’s south west.

The 26-year-old was involved in a car crash after a few drinks near Mortlake on Sunday afternoon.

He was then dropped at home but suffered further injuries trying to break into the house through a toilet window.

When he went to get help at his neighbour’s place, he’s believed to have hurt himself once again hurt himself, falling through a window while knocking at the door.

Paramedics took him to the Warrnambool Base Hospital in a critical condition.

A helicopter was on stand by to take him to Melbourne

But The Warrnambool Standard reports the shearer – believed to be from New Zealand – suffered a cardiac arrest and underwent surgery.
