Shin soreness sidelines Melbourne Renegades quick James Pattinson

The Melbourne Renegades have been dealt a big blow ahead of Monday night’s crucial BBL05 clash against Adelaide with quick James Pattinson ruled out through injury.

Cricket Australia has opted to rest the Test quick because he’s suffering shin soreness.

The 25-year-old took 13 wickets in Australia’s Test series against the West Indies and the Renegades were sweating on his return.

But Cricket Australia said they would not risk the young quick ahead of some major international tours.

‘The decision to stand him down from Renegades duty for Monday’s game was taken by Cricket Australia’s medical staff in consultation with the Renegades and is felt to be a prudent approach to the ongoing management of his shin,’ a CA statement said.

‘Especially with a tour of New Zealand, Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa and the ICC World Twenty20 (World Cup) to follow immediately after the conclusion of the summer at home.’

The Renegades had hoped Pattinson would be available to strengthen their bowling attack against the top-of-the ladder Strikers at Etihad Stadium.

The 25-year-old has not played a BBL game since last January.

Depending on the result of the Sydney derby on Saturday night, the Renegades will secure a spot in the semi-finals if they beat the Strikers.

A Sydney Thunder loss to the Sixers means the Renegades could still finish fourth – even if they lost to the Strikers.
