An unlicensed learner has been charged in relation to the fatal crash that occurred in Ascot Vale on Saturday night.

The driver allegedly swerved into a group of people outside the Melbourne Showgrounds who were believed to be attending the Supernova Comic Con and Gaming event.

One man was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, with the other dying at the scene.

Speaking with 3AW Breakfast, Victoria Police Media Officer, Kathryn Muffet, called the crash a ‘shocking incident’.

The 33-year-old was charged with dangerous driving causing death and culpable driving, and appeared before the Magistrates court yesterday.
