A pro-cannabis party MP says he hopes Snoop Dogg being in Melbourne helps normalise the use of cannabis.

The American rapper famously smokes the drug regularly and in public, and has been spotted lighting up in Melbourne ahead of his performance at the Grand Final.

Legalise Cannabis Party MP David Ettershank told Jacqui Felgate it was only a matter of time until smoking the drug would be legal across the country.

“I would think that it’s inevitable that (legalising cannabis will) happen across Australia,” he said.

“At least in the first instance, we’re looking for our people to stop being arrested (for smoking cannabis).”
