A recent report has claimed that one-third of Australians don’t know the lyrics of the national anthem.

Director of Education Programs and Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs Colleen Harkin told Tom Elliott singing the anthem at schools “isn’t mandatory”.

“The Victorian government actually stipulates that you mustn’t compel students to participate,” Harkin said on 3AW Mornings.
