Sky high: ACCC chair explains why the cost of flying has skyrocketed
Airlines have responded to complaints about flight cancellations and passengers becoming stranded, but their solution has caused more traveller woes.
Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Gina Cass-Gotleib, says complaints about flight cancellations peaked in July and August.
“In response they (the airlines) have cut back on what they’re offering, so they have the staff and the reliability to offer it,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“It means there is not sufficient capacity to actually meet demand.”
Passengers are warned they should expect to pay more to fly until at least early next year, when supply is expected to begin to pick up.
