SkyBus management has welcomed news the state government will be making an Airport Link from the city to Tullamarine a reality.

Daniel Andrews says the government will match the Turnbull government’s $5 billion pledge.

However, one thing in particular caught Neil Mitchell’s attention.

The government says the trip will take around 30 minutes and will cost about $20.

The SkyBus costs a similar amount and, on average, is quicker than that.

“20 minutes is probably pushing it, but our average travel time since the Tulla widening has come down to 22 minutes the last six or eight weeks,” SkyBus chief Adam Begg said on 3AW Mornings.

However, he doesn’t see it as unwanted competition.

“No, we welcome it,” he said.

“Melbourne has got a lot of challenges.”
