Public transport users will today be able to use their Android smartphone to pay for travel.

The new system comes into play from 7am this morning.

But iPhone users will have to wait.

Android users can now use their device to touch-on, touch-off, manage funds and check their travel history.

Commuters might be able to get off with a warning for the first few month if they have a flat battery.
