A mysterious odour has prompted almost 100 calls to the EPA last night.

And roughly another 100 calls to Ross and John!

Initial calls came from Altona and Werribee about 8pm, but then a south-westerly breeze appears to have pushed the odour north, as far as Moonee Ponds.

The EPA told 3AW Breakfast investigators are using their noses to find the source of the stench.

‘It seems like an event-driven odour plume,’ acting CEO Damien Wells said.

Whatever that means.

The smell is being described as seaweed-esque, but it’s not believed to be emanating from the Port Phillip.
