Smoke machine triggered in Portarlington bottle shop burglary
A Portarlington bottle shop owner has triggered a smoke machine on burglars.
Police say four men used a crowbar to smash their way into the Newcombe Street store around 1am.
They stole a large amount of alcohol and cigarettes.
The owner became aware of the theft and activated the fog machine, prompting them to flee.
Police tracked the vehicle by air as it reached alleged speeds of up to 200km/h.
They deployed stop sticks on the Ford Falcon in Grovedale and two men — aged 30 and 36 — were arrested after a short pursuit on foot.
A search was conducted of the area however two other men remain outstanding.
