Snail slime, the secretions that snails make when moving, is being used in skincare products.

Helen Hawes, owner of Simpson Snails, who breeds snails for eating and not for their slime, told 3AW Drive in order to ‘milk’ a snail, you need to stress them.

‘You make it feel uncomfortable…One of the ways they are milking these snails is by putting them on metal mesh and electrifying that mesh so the snail dribbles and the slime drips off it.’

It’s believed the nutrients contained within certain snail slimes is beneficial for the skin.
