The owner of a Melbourne cocktail bar has pleaded with patrons to stop stealing his glassware, after $40,000 worth was stolen.

Since opening 18 months ago Eau de Vie has lost the countless glasses to sneaky customers.

Melbourne bartender Sebastian Reaburn told Ross and John thefts have been a well known factor in the hospitality industry for some time.

“When I was working at Vue de Monde I did bust a customer, she had two of the beautiful crystal tumblers in her hand bag,” he said.

It prompted 3AW to ask whether we’re all opportunistic criminals at heart.

Turns out callers had some confessions to make.
