Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has vowed to keep sniffer dogs in Melbourne’s mental health facilities after a recent trial resulted in 23 drug seizures in just a ‘couple’ of months.

Cr Doyle, chairman of Melbourne Health, revealed the figure on 3AW Mornings.

‘We’ve had 23 reportable incidents and we’ve only been doing for a couple of months,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

‘It’s drugs? It’s ice.

‘We’ve got to keep them out of the facilities.

‘You could imagine what that means for instance, not just for the health of our patients, but for the safety and well-being of our staff.’
