Socceroos great details post-script to press conference plea

Socceroos great Mark Schwarzer has revealed he met with Football Australia boss James Johnson and other officials the day after he confronted them in a press conference about the state of the sport in Australia.

Schwarzer said the costs associated with playing soccer at grassroots level needed to be “seriously addressed” in the wake of Australia’s loss to France at the World Cup.

Speaking on 3AW’s Wide World of Sports, Schwarzer said that led to a chat the following day.

“We had some very, very good – frank – discussions,” he said.
