‘Magnificent!’: Australia through to World Cup in Qatar
Australia is through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after defeating Peru 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
Andrew Redmayne prevented a crucial fifth kick from going into the net in the tense shootout.
The goalkeeper was brought off the bench by coach Graham Arnold just before the end of extra time after a goalless 120 minutes.
It is Australia’s fifth consecutive World Cup.
Socceroos great Mark Bosnich says “no words can describe” how happy he is about the win.
“It was a magnificent performance against a team who’s ranked 20 places above Australia,” he told Ross and Russel.
“What a decision by Graham Arnold to bring on Andrew Redmayne, who’s a substitute goalkeeper.
“He’s come up with the goods! A fantastic save and we’re off to Qatar!”

3AW Breakfast sports guru Jon Anderson says bringing Redmayne on wasn’t coach Graham Arnold’s only stroke of genius.
“He also brought Craig Goodwin on and Goodwin took the third shot. After Boyle had missed, Moy converted and then Goodwin converted,” he said.
“He did a dual substitution and Goodwin played a vital part in that penalty shootout.”
