A social media expert says it’s inevitable teenagers under 16 will find a way to circumnavigate Australia’s world-first social media ban.

The ban will come into effect from next year, which will see teens barred from popular platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok.

University of California social media expert Professor Karen North says social media use and control at the moment is generally “out of control”.

“People of all ages are a little bit out of control in their social media use right now,” she said on 3AW Drive.

“But the idea of a comprehensive ban … they’ll find a way to continue to participate.”
