Society of Plastic Surgeons says it doesn’t know how many illegal clinics exist

The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons says it doesn’t know how many illegal cosmetic surgery clinics are operating in Melbourne.

A Docklands apartment was raided yesterday amid claims an occupant had been providing cosmetic procedures without medical registration.

Dr Gazi Hussain, vice president of the ASPS, told Ross and John it’s a huge concern. 

‘We just don’t know the extent of these things,’ Dr Hussain said.

‘They could well be widespread, but I’d like to think they’re not.’

Dr Hussain said people who choose these unlicensed clinics are taking a ‘massive’ risk.

‘They’ve got dogs and cats roaming around the apartment. The area doesn’t show any signs of sterility.’
