Some types of bread can help you lose weight
Bread is often thought of as the enemy of weight loss, but Swedish researchers have discovered substituting regular wheat bread the bread high in rye and other wholegrains can aid weight loss.
The researchers studied 242 overweight people, and found those eating rye products lost more weight than those who didn’t.
Accredited practising dietitian, Simone Austin, said weight management isn’t the only benefit associated with eating rye and other wholegrains.
“They’re good for weight control but they’re also really good to protect your bowel from bowel issues and bowel cancer, and things like that which are quite high in the Australian population,” she told Ross and Russel.
Ms Austin warned to be careful which products you choose if you’re trying to increase your wholegrain consumption.
“Be careful when you’re at the supermarket. Some rye breads will just say rye bread but they actually have a lot of wheat and not much rye,” she said.
“Look at the ingredients.
“If it’s a nice, heavy, dense loaf then it’s probably a good one to have.”
