Southern Cross Station bomb scare resolved
LATEST: The suspicious package at Southern Cross Station has turned out to be a pair of shoes.
The Bomb Squad was called in after the suspicious item was first reported about 2pm.
Surrounding buildings were evacuated, including Media House, where 3AW and The Age are located.
Roads were closed for most of the operation, although trains were only stopped for a matter of minutes.
The situation resolved shortly after 5pm when it was discovered that the package contained nothing but a pair of shoes.
3AW reporter Denis O’Kane said police are hoping to re-open the Collins St entrance soon.
