Spectator abuses referee at Big V basketball game

Footage of a spectator abusing a referee and grabbing the jacket of a basketball player at a semi-professional game has emerged this morning.

The video, sent to the Rumour File, shows the person grabbing the jumper of one of the players before being escorted off.

Basketball Victoria has confirmed there was an incident at a Big V senior men’s game over the weekend.

The game was abandoned with less than four minutes left after the violent incident.

“The safety of our referees is paramount in conducting basketball leagues and competitions and Basketball Victoria will take all necessary measures to ensure a safe working environment for our technical officials,” Basketball Victoria said in a statement.

“We would like to commend both teams on their conduct throughout the incident, as they immediately protected the referees and ensured their safety. “
