Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has formally apologised to Australia’s Vietnam veterans for the way they were treated when they returned home, almost 50 years after the end of the war.

Neil Mitchell says it is a “significant” moment that hasn’t got anywhere near as much media attention as it should.

“It was an atrocious time in Australian history,” he said.
