For the fifth consecutive year, Springvale Road in Glen Waverley has been named the national hotspot for car accidents, according to the 2017 AAMI Crash Index.

Such is the frequency of crashes along the notorious stretch of road, two different sections appear in the list of the top five hotspots.

The Chadstone Shopping Centre car park also made the top five.

AAMI’s Michael Mills told Neil Mitchell most accidents are caused by distracted drivers.

“Mobile phones are a really big issue,” Mr Mills said.

“Our survey said 38% of drivers found it difficult not to touch their phone while they were driving.”
