St Kilda residents shocked at refusal to remove payphone dubbed “uber for drugs”

St Kilda residents are shocked by Telstra’s refusal to remove a public phone dubbed the epicentre of an “uber for drugs” system.

Darren Robinson from Friends of St Kilda Hill has told 3AW Breakfast, dealers leave their phone numbers in the phone booth on Dalgety Street and there is no shortage of users on the streets seeking to give them a call.

He believes police have tried calling the numbers themselves, but new numbers keep appearing.

“People are putting their numbers on the pay phone and then people come up and ring the numbers, basically doing drug transactions,” Darren said.

“They write it on the inside of the payphone, with texta.”
