“I’m told a yesterday a young man attacked a male staff member in the kitchen of the Deakin Unit,” Neil Mitchell said on 3AW Mornings.
“The thug, I am told, is under 18.”
The extent of the man’s injuries are not known.
The Department of Justice and Regulation supplied 3AW Mornings with the following statement:
Violent behaviour or assaults by young people in custody is absolutely unacceptable, and the safety of our staff, young people and the community is of utmost importance.
An incident occurred at the Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct on Wednesday that was resolved quickly by youth justice staff.
One youth justice worker was assessed on-site for injury and was transported to hospital for a short period for assessment before being released that same day.
As with all incidents or allegations of violence or assault, the matter was referred to Victoria Police.
