Star pupil in Vic Pol community program injured in alleged assault, interviewed regarding separate incident
One of the pupils involved in a special Victoria Police program to improve relationships with the Sudanese community has been injured in an alleged assault.
She is also co-operating with police regarding a separate matter from earlier in the year.
Neil Mitchell reported that the teenage girl is involved in a police internship program run in partnership between Victoria Police, Skill Invest and the Victorian Government.
It began in its current form as a program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youths in 2017 to help build pathways to employment and positive relationships with police.
This year the program expanded to youths from new and emerging communities in Melbourne’s north west. There are currently seven youths from South Sudanese and Somali backgrounds participating in the program.
