State funeral to be held for Shane Warne
A state funeral will be held for Shane Warne.
The MCG is firming as the likely venue, with a private ceremony to be held for Warne’s family prior to the event.
It is likely to be within two or three weeks.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has confirmed Warne’s family has accepted the offer, following the cricket legend’s shock death in Thailand.
He was just 52.
The Great Southern Stand at the MCG will also be renamed the SK Warne Stand as a tribute to the iconic Victorian.
There are now calls for him to be posthumously knighted.
“I think he’d love it,” Warne’s manager, James Erskine, said on 3AW Mornings.
“It’s quite interesting… the five top Wisden cricketers of all-time are knighted, he’s the only one that isn’t.
“I think that would be marvellous.
“He deserved it.”
