RUMOUR CONFIRMED

The state government has backflipped on a call to ban an interstate school trip due to COVID-19 concerns.

A group of year 11 students at Elwood College were scheduled to leave for the Northern Territory next Tuesday.

They had a full risk-management plan, but despite that, the Education Department withheld approval for the six-day trip until last night.

The Rumour File was tipped off to the situation on Thursday morning, with ‘Not on the Road Again’ suggesting the Education Department took so long to approve the trip because they feared if a student contracted COVID in the Northern Territory, parents would have to travel 20 hours to care for their child.

On Thursday evening, the Herald Sun reported the Education Department had backflipped on the decision following a call from the newspaper, and will now let the camp go ahead.
