State government praised for ‘sensible’ response to legalise cannabis proposal
The state government has revealed they’re “amenable” to further discussions with the Legalise Cannabis party about potential further legalisation or decriminalisation of cannabis.
Legalise Cannabis Victoria MP for Western Metropolitan, David Ettershank, says the government has realised legalisation of the drug is inevitable.
“I think the government is just aware of the fact when you’ve got, as we have now … the last survey, which was 2019, you’ve got about 680,000 Victorians regularly using cannabis, it’s pretty pointless to say don’t do it,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Liberal Democrat member for the South Eastern Metropolitan region, David Limbrick says there is enough support across the crossbench for the government to get it across without the opposition.
He also says the “harms” many are concerned will be caused by legalisation already exist under prohibition.
“What I said in my speech yesterday, and I’ve held this view for a very long time, is that prohibition actually increases these harms, giving people a criminal record for possessing weed is a terrible thing,” he said.
